Jewelry Orders on Hold

I am currently attending nursing school, with a very fast-paced and demanding schedule. Most of my time outside of class is spent studying, with zero time for working on jewelry orders. I have a couple of outstanding orders that I will make every effort to complete as soon as I can. At this time, I think it is best that I do not accept any additional orders. If you aren't in any hurry to have an order completed, and really want me to do it, I will probably resume orders after I have completed nursing school, which will be August 2011.

It is so exciting to see the variety of colors that emerge from all the different roses and flower petals. The possibilities are endless!

These pendants were all made from a variety of dried flowers from a mixed flower arrangement. The flowers dried with such vibrant colors still intact as you can see in each piece. Each of the heart pendants are from a different variety of flower petals, and the cross pendant is a combination of all of the flower petals together. ($20 each)

Rose Petal & Mini Pearl Necklace

This is my most recent rose petal jewelry design. This necklace features mini pearls with four Rose Petal Beads accented by Swarovski crystals and a Rose Petal Cross. This is a custom designed piece for a special friend. The four beads have a special significance only to her and were made from roses with equally special significance.

This is a special surprise gift I made for my friend from the same roses and polymer clay mix. It looks like another necklace, but it is actually designed to be much shorter to hang from a rearview mirror. I guess if she reads this blog, it won't be a surprise! Oh well, I'll take that chance.

St. Therese Chaplet made from Dried Roses and Polymer Clay

Several heart pendants were made from the same roses and clay for family keepsakes, and I made the cross pendant as a free gift for the customer.

This gorgeous lavender rosary was made from Lt. Amethyst AB Swarovski Crystals and the larger beads are made from dried red roses and polymer clay. It amazes me how the red roses turn a beautiful lavender color when mixed with the clay. This is the perfect keepsake for a special occasion or the loss of a loved one.

Family Keepsake Hearts

Since I couldn't go to St. Louis with the rest of my family to see our niece make her first vows to be a nun, I wanted to do something special for my sister-in-laws and mother-in-law to show my support and to let them know how much I truly wanted to be there with them. With the same rose petals and clay that I made the St. Therese Chaplet with, I made heart shaped necklaces for each of them. My husband gave them to my sister-in-laws and mother-in-law when they got to their hotel in St. Louis.

This is a photo of my mother-in-law and Sister Rose, who had just taken her first vows, and has now taken the name of Sister Mary Sophia. We were so used to calling her Sister Rose, so now we'll just have to get used to a new name. As you can see, my mother-in-law is wearing the heart necklace I gave her. That means alot to me.

My husband, James with Melissa (Sister Mary Sophia). I love the pink (rose color) on her. It matches her cheeks.

Saint Therese Chaplet for Sister Rose

Today, our neice, Melissa is making her vows to become nun in St. Louis, MO. She has been at the Mount Grace Convent in St. Louis with the Holy Spirit Adoration (Pink) Sister for the past 3 years. They are a cloistered order and do not leave the convent. Around 35 of our family members went, but I couldn't go due to my work schedule.

I made this St. Therese Chaplet for Melissa (Sister Rose) for her special day. It is like her wedding day. We had planted a pink rose bush at our church for her, and I made this from one of it's roses. I chose St. Therese because she's known as "The Little Flower". It has 24 beads, because she lived 24 years. Melissa will be 24 this year. I hope she likes it!!

How many Roses does it take to make jewelry?

Alot of the jewelry I make can be made from just one or two roses or flowers. For a piece with just a pendant, one rose is all it takes. For a piece with a pendant and beads combined, two roses is best.

Roses work out best, but I've experimented with other flowers with a good outcome.

The first project I ever did was made from a six year old dried rose that I had saved from my step-mother's funeral. It was a yellow rose that had dried brown, but the finished piece turned out beautiful. I made heart pendants for several family members. It was very special to each one of them just to serve as a reminder of someone we love very much who is no longer with us.

If you are interested in having rose petal jewelry made, it is best to get the fresh flowers to me within a couple of days after the event. That would really only work if you are local. If that is not the case, you can dry the rose petals yourself, then send them to me by mail.

The best way to dry rose petals is the natural way... carefully pick the petals off the rose, lay them on paper towels and let them sit out and dry naturally for a weeks or two. If you are more rushed for time and can't wait that long, there is a faster method. Place the petals on several layers of paper towels and cover them with several paper towels. Then you microwave them 30 seconds at a time until they are dry and "crispy". If you press one with your finger and it cracks into pieces, it's done.

To mail them to me... Just place them in a paper envelope and that's it. DO NOT place them in plastic zip-lock bags. This will hold in moisture and cause them to mildew. You can wrap them in a dry paper towel or between sheets of paper. Now they're ready to be mailed to me for your custom made jewelry keepsakes.

Real Flower Petal Clay Cross & Bead Keepsake Necklace

This necklace is the greatest idea for a wedding keepsake. It contains the actual flower petals from a wedding. The crushed flower petals are blended with polymer clay to form the cross and beads. It was a keepsake gift for the bride. A set this size with the pendant and beads would need around 4-6 roses. If the rose is still fresh, it is best to remove the petals and dry them in the microwave 30 seconds at a time to retain the best color.

This heart pendant and earring set is one of my first attempts at jewelry design with polymer clay. They contain actual flower petals mixed into the clay. They are great keepsakes for any special occasion (wedding, funeral, baptism, etc.).

I have designed and created lots of jewelry for myself, and I thought I would post some of those pieces. Any of these can be re-created or customized to suit your needs.

This piece is made from large Tortoise shell beads, Czech glass beads, and Black Swarovski rondelles. I just happen to be wearing this today. It is one of my favorites!

My favorite color is purple, and my birthstone is Amethyst, so I love everything about this necklace. I get many compliments when I wear it. It has Amethyst Czech Glass Swirl Beads, Glass Pearls, and Clear Swarovski Crystals.

OK, I guess I have alot of favorites. This is one that I wear quite often if I'm wearing something black or dark.

I bought these shell beads in Nassau, Bahamas. My husband and I went there on a cruise in January for our 10 year anniversary. I took them apart and added other beads and crystals.

Like I said... I love purple.

A good friend gave me a nice top and 4 coordinating bracelets for my birthday. I took the bracelets apart and made this long necklace and earrings set.

I need jewelry to coordinate with everything, so this is for my hot pink blouses.
